What follows you across state lines
Three Kent State rules apply wherever you train. You need an unrestricted RN license for the state where you do your practicum, you identify your own preceptor with help from your coordinator and faculty, and your hours count only at an agency with a College of Nursing affiliation agreement. Kent State joined SARA in 2015, which covers the online program itself, but a state's board of nursing can still set its own rules for clinicals.

Can I study nursing online at Kent State from any state?
Not for every program. Kent State lists approved states program by program: 14 for the online PMHNP and AGCNS, 17 for the WHNP, 20 or 21 for the leadership and educator concentrations, 16 for the post-master's DNP and 30 for the RN-to-BSN.
Why isn't the Kent State FNP on the approved-states list?
The FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP are mostly online rather than fully online, with some courses on the Kent Campus, and Kent State's approved-states page lists only the fully online programs. Ask the Office of Student Services about eligibility if you live outside Ohio.
What if I move to another state during my Kent State program?
Tell the Office of Student Services right away. Kent State's approved-states page and MSN handbook both say some state laws make it impossible to offer practicum courses, so a move can decide whether you can continue.
Which states does Kent State say its NP programs do not meet?
Kent State's licensure disclosure lists California and New York (plus American Samoa) as not meeting requirements for its MSN nurse practitioner concentrations. The CNS and certificate programs add other states.
