Why Kent State searches stall

These causes come straight from Kent State's rules and the published processes of Ohio health systems. Name yours before you make another call:

• Calling health systems that take students only through central applications, such as Cleveland Clinic, whose window for your term may have closed
• Contacting agencies that bar students from reaching preceptors directly, whose instructions sit inside the GSN Canvas course
• A willing preceptor whose employer has not yet approved precepting
• A preceptor who does not fit the course, such as a medication-only provider for PMHNP Practicum I, which needs psychotherapy experience
• A site without a current College of Nursing agreement, found too late to arrange one
• Living in a state missing from your program's approved list, or holding your RN license in a different state from your practicum

Widen the search the right way

Widen by setting and role before you widen by distance. Kent State's rotation pages allow more than one kind of preceptor for most courses. AGPCNP students can train in long-term care, express care, internal medicine or primary care, and with faculty approval a CNS or PA can precept. WHNP students can work beside a nurse-midwife, a WHNP, an FNP or a general OB/GYN, and the women's primary care course accepts an adult NP, an FNP or a family-practice physician.

PMHNP settings on Kent State's list run from private practice and community mental health to correctional facilities, emergency settings, primary care and hospital consultation-liaison teams. NAHSL students are encouraged to look outside their own unit or employer.
