Program and course: how many placements, and what kind
Kent State programs differ widely in how many practicum courses they carry. The FNP has five; the AGACNP, AGPCNP, PMHNP and WHNP have four each; the AGCNS has three; the Nurse Educator and NAHSL concentrations have two practicums each, with NAHSL adding a seminar. A quote for your next course looks different from one covering every practicum left in your plan.
The course matters as much as the count. Some practicums run with one steady preceptor, while others need several. The last AGACNP practicum rotates through two or three unfamiliar specialties with a 50-hour minimum apiece, and FNP students add a pediatric preceptor for NURS 61692. Location: where you live and hold your license
Kent State practicums happen in person, near your home, in the state where you live and are licensed as an RN. A student in Akron or Cleveland searches the part of Ohio where Kent State's named partner hospitals concentrate. A student in a smaller Ohio county, or living out of state in a program Kent State approves there, may need a wider radius and more outreach. Your placement advisor starts with practices within a reasonable drive of home and work, then widens only as far as your course requires.
Location also decides whose rules apply. Some Northeast Ohio systems take graduate students only through fixed application windows, and others work through ACEMAPP; our Ohio NP preceptors page covers each route. Outside Ohio, your program's approved states list sets where the search can happen at all.
Timing: how soon your semester opens
Timing is the factor you control most. A search that starts when your orientation notice arrives, four to six months ahead of a first practicum, leaves room for employer approval, a new affiliation agreement if the site needs one, and agency onboarding. A search that starts a few weeks before classes has to fit all of that into far less time.
Kent State's semester rule adds a firm edge: no practicum hour may fall before classes start unless your coordinator signs off on an early start, and every hour must be done by the term's final day. Specialty: the narrowest preceptor pools
Some Kent State concentrations draw on small groups of preceptors. PMHNP students move through three distinct preceptor types: a mental health provider with psychotherapy experience first, then a prescriber, then a PMH APRN covering half or more of Practicum IV, all away from their own workplace. WHNP students look for a nurse-midwife, WHNP, FNP or general OB/GYN whose setting sees plenty of gynecologic or obstetric patients.
Leadership and education tracks have their own specifics. Later AGCNS practicums call for a CNS working in all three spheres of influence, NAHSL students need a leader with a master's degree, ideally a level or two above their own role, and NURS 60592 pairs Nurse Educator students with an experienced educator. The narrower the pool, the more searching your quote reflects.
Kent State's own costs are separate
Your quote covers our placement work only. Kent State's Clinical Compliance Policy puts all compliance costs on students: the tracking vendor account, a BLS or CPR/AED card, background checks at the state and federal level, health insurance proof, immunizations, and a physical dated within the past year. Typhon charges once, at account setup, and you order your College name badge through the GSN Canvas course.
Agencies can add costs of their own, such as a drug screen, or an ACEMAPP subscription at systems that use it. Tuition and university fees are billed by Kent State. Because the work behind two placements is rarely the same. A first primary care practicum near Cleveland that starts next summer and a PMHNP prescriber needed in a rural county within weeks call for very different searches. Does the quote include Kent State's compliance or Typhon costs?

Can I get a quote for just one practicum?

Are DNP and RN-to-BSN students quoted the same way?
Yes, on the same five factors. DNP students typically need a site and preceptor able to host the project through all three project courses, NURS 72692 to NURS 72892. RN-to-BSN students should first ask course faculty how the NURS 43001 clinical site is arranged, since Kent State leaves that detail unpublished.
