Contact the Kent State placement desk
Send your request through the form on this page, open the chat, or message us on WhatsApp or by text. The more your first message says about your Kent State course and timing, the more useful our first reply can be. Below: what to include, what happens after you send it, and which questions belong with Kent State.
Send us your request
Program, city and semester, plus anything else in the message box. Your placement advisor replies with the next steps for your search.

What to include in your message
A placement search starts from a handful of facts, and one message can carry all of them.
- Your program and concentration, for example MSN Family NP, a post-master's PMHNP certificate or the post-master's DNP.
- The practicum course, by number if you have it:
NURS 61292,NURS 66192orNURS 72692. - Where you live and hold your RN license, since Kent State's online students complete practicums in their own state.
- The semester your practicum starts, and whether your first-practicum orientation has already happened.
- Leads you already have, such as a clinician who said maybe or a site you would prefer.
- Anything urgent: a preceptor who dropped, hours behind, or a registration date coming up soon.
Unsure of a course number? Your GPS plan in FlashLine lists it, and our programs page shows the practicum courses for every concentration.
What happens after you send it
- A placement advisor reads your requestThey review your program, course, location and timing, along with anything you wrote in the message box.
- You get a reply with next stepsThe reply sets out how we would approach your search, any questions we still need answered and what shapes your quote.
- The search begins when you are readyOnce you decide to go ahead, we start looking for preceptors who fit your course and prepare what your practicum faculty and coordinator review.
How soon we reply depends on the details of your request and how close your semester is. If your start date is near, say so in the first line and we treat it with the urgency it needs. The how it works page shows the full process from there.
Chat, WhatsApp and text
The form suits a detailed request; the other channels suit a quick question. The chat button on every page opens a conversation with the placement desk right in your browser. The WhatsApp and text buttons open a message on your phone with a short note already filled in, so add your program and course and press send.
Pick whichever channel is easiest today and switch whenever you like; your request stays with the same placement desk either way. For anything long, such as a list of preceptors you have already contacted or a site's onboarding requirements, the form's message box keeps it all in one place and in writing, which helps when you later share details with your practicum faculty.
For preceptors and health care organizations
Clinicians who would like to precept Kent State graduate students can use the same form. Choose the preceptor option and tell us your role, specialty, practice setting, city and the terms that suit you. We reply with how matching works and which Kent State courses fit your practice. Our page on how to precept a Kent State student covers qualifications, time and the Typhon evaluation.
Practices and health systems that could host Kent State students across several terms can write as well: list your specialties, locations and the terms you have in mind, and we plan matches term by term, with each student's faculty handling approval. If your organization routes student requests through a central office, or does not let students contact preceptors directly, mention that and we follow your process from the start.
Questions we answer, and questions for Kent State
We answer questions about finding preceptors and sites, fitting your course and concentration rules, timing your search, checking the affiliation-agreement step and our quote. Some questions belong with Kent State. Your practicum faculty and concentration coordinator approve preceptors and sites; the Office of Academic Advising and Student Services handles your plan, license verification and compliance monitoring; and the GSN Canvas course holds the Graduate Student Guide for Practicum Placements. Our who does what page shows which role handles each part.
If you are planning a move to another state, let the Office of Student Services know at once, which Kent State requires, and tell us as well so your search follows you. If you are unsure where a question belongs, send it to us anyway. We answer what is ours and point you to the right Kent State desk for the rest.
Your information
We use what you send to reply to you and to plan and run your placement search. Course numbers, dates, your city and the preceptors you have already approached are all useful; the more complete the picture, the better the first set of options. As the search moves forward, your placement advisor may ask for items your practicum faculty will need, such as a prospective preceptor's CV or the site's onboarding requirements. Our privacy page explains how we store and handle your details.
If a detail changes after you write, such as a new start term, a move or a preceptor lead of your own, send it through the same channel so your search reflects it. Changes like these often shift which preceptors fit, so the sooner we have them, the better.
Questions Kent State students ask
Can I ask a question without starting a placement?
Yes. Use the chat button or the form's message box to ask about your course, your timing or how our service works. Your placement advisor answers the question, and you decide later whether to go ahead with a search. Nothing starts until you say so.
Can I talk to someone by phone?
The fastest way to reach a person is the chat button, or the WhatsApp and text buttons on this page, which open a message to the placement desk on your phone. If you would rather talk, say so in your message and your placement advisor will set up a time that suits you.
What if my semester starts in a few weeks?
Say so at the top of your message, with your course number and city. Kent State bars practicum hours before the semester's first day without coordinator approval, but meeting a preceptor and finishing agency onboarding before then is allowed, so short notice still leaves useful work. Read need a preceptor fast.
Should I contact my coordinator before or after writing to you?
Either order works. Your concentration coordinator helps with your first placement during the semester before it, and faculty and the coordinator approve every preceptor. Keeping your coordinator informed while we search means approval moves quickly once the right preceptor is found.
My preceptor just dropped out. How should I reach you?
Use whichever channel reaches us fastest for you, and say in the first line that your preceptor has left mid-semester, with your course, hours remaining and last day. Our preceptor dropped out page explains what to do with your faculty in the meantime.
