Missouri and Kent State's online nursing programs
For a Missouri RN, Kent State's online catalog narrows to a single program: the RN-to-BSN. Every graduate list, from the PMHNP and WHNP to the Nurse Educator, NAHSL and post-MSN DNP, skips Missouri. The state belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact, sets no published hurdle for nursing schools based elsewhere, and keeps NPs in physician collaboration for their whole careers.

What Kent State publishes about Missouri
Missouri's status rests on two undated Kent State pages, both read on September 24, 2026. One settles who may enroll; the other says whether a program satisfies Missouri licensing after graduation. Every program's full state list is summarized on our approved states page.

Read MEETS here as a statement about Missouri licensure once you finish, not an invitation to enroll. Three NP tracks, the FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP, require some presence on the Kent Campus and sit off the approved-states page entirely; their availability to a Missouri resident is a question only the Office of Student Services can answer. Kent State's APRN program pages still say licensure outside Ohio is undetermined, a second reason to get any MEETS confirmed first.
The RN-to-BSN from Missouri
The RN-to-BSN is fully online and never asks you to travel to Kent. Hands-on work centers on NURS 43001 Health Promotion, scheduled with a clinical lab alongside its lectures, and on the scholarly project in the NURS 47099 capstone. To register for the nursing courses you must hold an active RN license, unrestricted, issued by the state where your practica take place.
Two things Kent State leaves unpublished for this program are who arranges the clinical setting and how many hours it adds up to, so your course syllabus and instructor are the sources to lean on early. The RN-to-BSN handbook ties background checks and the immunization form to site requests, and each agency's uniform policy governs what you wear. Collaborative practice, tax credits and health systems
The AANP rates Missouri restricted. An NP there works under a physician collaborative practice arrangement for as long as they practice, and the arrangement brings ratio rules, chart review duties and controlled-substance limits. The state's preceptor tax credit points elsewhere: its beneficiaries are physicians and PAs holding Missouri licenses who teach the state's own medical and PA students. It leaves out NPs and nursing students alike.
CoxHealth, MU Health Care, BJC HealthCare, SSM Health and Mercy are among the largest systems. Around 2.1 million Missourians live in metro St. Louis and roughly 1.3 million on the Missouri side of metro Kansas City, with Springfield and Columbia next. Those names map where Missouri nurses work, not places that have agreed to train Kent State students, and a graduate site's hours would start counting only after Kent State signs an affiliation agreement with it.
Clinical approval and your Missouri license
Nothing from the Missouri State Board of Nursing, in rule or guidance, has surfaced that asks a school based elsewhere to apply or send notice before its students start clinicals in Missouri. Section 335.081 of Missouri's statutes lets students enrolled in approved nursing schools practice under supervision as part of their course of study, without spelling out how out-of-state schools fit. Kent State is a SARA institution, a status that dates to 2015 and covers online delivery, while nursing boards keep their own authority. See clinicals outside Ohio.
Missouri wrote the Nurse Licensure Compact into law in 2017, and it took effect on January 19, 2018. Kent State, for its part, wants a clean, unrestricted license from your state of residence whenever practicum happens outside Ohio, and a Missouri-issued license covers a Missouri resident. Missouri has no APRN Compact on its books.

Questions Kent State students ask
Is Kent State's FNP an option for someone living in Missouri?
Kent State has not said. The FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP mix online courses with some campus attendance at Kent, and the approved-states page names no state for them, Missouri included. Missouri shows MEETS on the NP licensure disclosure, but that concerns licensure after graduation. Put the enrollment question to the Office of Student Services before you apply.
Why are Missouri residents shut out of Kent State's online PMHNP and WHNP?
Kent State's approved-states page leaves Missouri off those lists and explains none of its state choices. It does carry a general warning that the laws of some states make clinical practicum courses impossible to offer. Since the page carries no date, anyone set on a graduate program should check with the Office of Student Services for a current answer.
Does Missouri's preceptor tax credit apply to nurse practitioners?
No. Section 135.690 of Missouri's statutes limits the credit to physicians and PAs, licensed in Missouri, who teach Missouri medical or PA students unpaid; NPs, other APRNs and nursing students get nothing from it. What if I move to Missouri during a Kent State MSN?
Notify the Office of Student Services before you relocate; Kent State's approved-states page makes that notice mandatory for admitted graduate and RN-to-BSN students. With no online graduate program approved for Missouri, the college decides whether you continue from there. If it says yes, your practicum, preceptor and RN license all become Missouri-based, and the new site may need an affiliation agreement first.
