Kent State online nursing in Mississippi
Mississippi makes every Kent State online nursing list: the PMHNP, WHNP and AGCNS, the Nurse Educator and NAHSL tracks, the DNP for master's-prepared nurses, and the RN-to-BSN. What needs planning is a Mississippi step, not a Kent State one. The state's higher-education board reviews out-of-state nursing programs before their students can do clinicals there.

Two caveats. Whether the hybrid FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP, each with some Kent Campus days, can be taken from Mississippi is unpublished, a point for the Office of Student Services. And the MEETS column deserves a double-check, because the APRN program pages still call licensure outside Ohio unsettled.
IHL, not the Board of Nursing, reviews out-of-state programs
Here the nursing board licenses nurses but approves only LPN programs. Degree programs for RNs fall under a different body: the trustees of Mississippi's Institutions of Higher Learning, known as IHL. Every nursing program from another state, bachelor's or graduate, that brings clinical students here is held to Mississippi's standards. In IHL's view, a Mississippi practicum makes the school physically present in the state, which sets off a review by its Nursing Education staff.
Budget time for it. IHL says a review may last three months, and the procedures manual it issued in August 2024 tells programs run from other states to ask no less than four months before students start. A school also needs SARA participation or a separate distance-education authorization, and Kent State satisfies that through SARA, which it joined in 2015. Whether the IHL review is in place for your program is Kent State's question to answer, and you want that answer long before your first practicum. A Mississippi preceptor's yes is step one. Ask Kent State early whether the IHL review covers your program and term.
Collaborative practice and where preceptors work
The AANP classes Mississippi as reduced practice. NPs need a board-approved collaborative relationship, and the collaborator can be a Mississippi-licensed physician or dentist. Kent State's own standards sit on top, from a year of experience in your population focus to concentration rules such as the PMHNP's prescriber for practicum II, laid out on the PMHNP page.
Recognizable employers include Forrest Health, Singing River Health System, North Mississippi Health Services, Baptist Memorial Health Care (Memphis-based, and the operator of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson) and UMMC, the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Jackson metro, near 610,000 people, is the largest, with Gulfport-Biloxi, Mississippi's share of the Memphis metro and Hattiesburg after it. Listing them says nothing about whether any will accept a Kent State student, and none counts for hours until it signs an affiliation agreement with Kent State's College of Nursing.
Your license: a compact state with an IHL twist
Mississippi joined the multistate license system on January 19, 2018. The Board's explanation: keep your license in good standing and name a compact state as your primary home, and you may work across the other compact states; employers cannot demand an extra remote-state license. As a Mississippi resident, your multistate license comes from Mississippi itself.
IHL's standards add a graduate-level rule: students in APRN clinical courses, and in non-APRN graduate clinical courses, need an unencumbered RN license good in the state where the clinicals happen. That matches Kent State's own requirement, set out on RN license for practicum. No APRN Compact law exists in Mississippi yet.

Can I study Kent State's PMHNP online from Mississippi?
Yes. Mississippi appears on Kent State's 14-state PMHNP roster, which covers the certificate too, and its NP licensure line says MEETS. All four practicums are done in person in Mississippi, each with its own preceptor profile. Since Kent State's APRN pages still leave licensure outside Ohio officially unsettled, ask for written confirmation before enrolling.
Who files with IHL, me or Kent State?
Kent State. IHL reviews the school rather than the student. Your part is naming your Mississippi site early and telling your concentration coordinator, because Kent State needs to know the state of every out-of-state placement. With a review that can run three months, that head start matters.

First, tell Kent State's Office of Student Services you are moving; every enrolled graduate or RN-to-BSN student owes Kent State that notice without delay. Mississippi's place on every online list helps, but the college makes the call. Your preceptor, site and license then shift to Mississippi, and both the IHL review and any new affiliation agreement can take time.
