Nebraska nurses and Kent State's online programs
Three Kent State online nursing programs accept Nebraska residents: the Nurse Educator MSN or certificate, the Nursing Administration and Health Systems Leadership (NAHSL) MSN or certificate, and the RN-to-BSN. The online PMHNP, WHNP, AGCNS and post-MSN DNP leave Nebraska off. For the three that are open, Nebraska's rules are light, since its Board does not regulate post-licensure education.

A MEETS entry for the NP and CNS programs is about Nebraska licensure after graduation, and it leaves online enrollment closed. Kent State's APRN pages hedge on that very point, calling licensure beyond Ohio undetermined, so a Nebraska nurse eyeing an NP path should get Kent State's position in writing. The three hybrid NP tracks, which bring students to the Kent Campus at times, carry no published rule for Nebraskans at all; the Office of Student Services can say where they stand.
Educator and leadership practicums in Nebraska
Both approved graduate programs total 300 practicum hours by Kent State's program pages. For the Nurse Educator, half is clinical time in your own specialty (NURS 67092) and half is spent beside a seasoned educator in a school or a hospital's staff-development department (NURS 60592); one older rotation page gives 180 hours instead, so let your syllabus settle it. NAHSL opens with NURS 64292, and its second practicum, NURS 64392, pairs with the NURS 64302 seminar. Your NAHSL preceptor should be a master's-prepared leader sitting a level or two above your present job.
In Nebraska, look first at the big employers: Nebraska Medicine, Bryan Health, CHI Health, Children's Nebraska and Nebraska Methodist Health System. Metro Omaha holds about 887,000 Nebraskans and Lincoln about 352,000, with Grand Island a distant third. A Board that leaves post-licensure programs alone
Nebraska's Board of Nursing works within the state DHHS Licensure Unit. Its approval power covers programs that lead to a first license and enroll Nebraskans, and any NCLEX-track program teaching in the state must reach out to it. Post-licensure education, online or in any other format, sits outside its regulation, which means no Board approval step for Kent State's RN-to-BSN, Nurse Educator or NAHSL clinicals.
DHHS does lean on NCSBN guidance that locates practice wherever the student sits. Under that reading, a faculty member's license has to match the student's state, and APRN instructors need Nebraska APRN licensure. The department also pictures schools arranging preceptors with facilities directly and, when a program is post-licensure, writing their own preceptor standards. At Kent State, you identify the preceptor, faculty and your coordinator approve, and the college handles the affiliation agreement. Board rosters since July 2026 no longer show a separate APRN board, which hints at a merger no statute found yet confirms.
Licensing for a Nebraska practicum
Nebraska's compact membership has been active since January 19, 2018, and a Nebraska resident usually holds a multistate license issued by Nebraska. Kent State wants that home-state license unrestricted, and a Nebraska-issued one meets the mark; the timing details are on RN license for practicum. No APRN Compact has passed in Nebraska. The AANP counts Nebraska as full practice for NPs, with a 2,000-hour supervised transition first.

Questions Kent State students ask
Can a Nebraska resident enroll in Kent State's online PMHNP or WHNP?
Not at present. Nebraska is missing from the PMHNP, WHNP and AGCNS lists, even though the licensure disclosure marks those programs MEETS for Nebraska. The disclosure covers licensing after graduation, not who may enroll. Because the approved-states page is undated, a Nebraska nurse set on an NP track should check the current list with Kent State's Office of Student Services.
Is Kent State's post-MSN DNP open to Nebraska residents?
No. Sixteen states appear on the post-MSN DNP list, and Nebraska is not one of them. Nebraskans can still study online in the Nurse Educator, NAHSL and RN-to-BSN programs. A current Kent State student who expects to be living in Nebraska by the time a DNP would start should settle that plan with Kent State before committing.
Must my Nebraska NAHSL preceptor be a nurse?
Kent State's NAHSL rotation page prefers an MSN but asks, above all, for a master's-prepared leader one or two levels above your role, and it nudges students toward units or employers other than their own. Nebraska lets post-licensure programs set their own preceptor standards, so Kent State's standard governs, with final approval from your faculty and coordinator.
Does Nebraska require a filing before my RN-to-BSN clinical work?
Nebraska's DHHS says its Board does not regulate post-licensure programs, so no Board approval step applies to RN-to-BSN clinicals. Kent State's own requirements still apply: an RN license from Nebraska, unrestricted, plus a background check or immunization form if your site asks. Kent State's membership in SARA, which it joined in 2015, covers the online program.
