Idaho and Kent State nursing: the short answer, then the details
Idaho is on none of the seven online nursing lists Kent State publishes, so from an Idaho address you cannot begin the RN-to-BSN, the online MSN tracks and certificates, or the post-master's DNP. Can an Idaho resident enroll in Kent State's online nursing programs?
Not today. Kent State names approved states program by program, and Idaho appears on none of the lists. The stated reason is general: state law in some places blocks clinical practicum courses. A different Kent State page, the licensure disclosure, still files Idaho under MEETS for the APRN programs.

The FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP, which blend online work with Kent Campus sessions, carry no published rule for out-of-Ohio students, so the Office of Student Services is where to take that question. What does Idaho require of APRN students and their teachers?
Idaho's nursing statute and rules deal with approving programs based in Idaho and say nothing specific about clinical placements by schools elsewhere. The Board of Nursing, part of DOPL, the state's occupational licensing division, handles those cases one at a time, pointing schools based elsewhere to its licensing staff by email.
Two Idaho texts shape any APRN clinical there. Under IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a, a registered nurse licensed in Idaho, or practicing there on a compact privilege, may work at the APRN level while matriculated in a nationally accredited APRN program, provided the work is integral to the curriculum.
The Board's April 2024 education policy then sets licensing for the people around you. Preceptors hold a license at least as advanced as the one you are working toward, nursing faculty hold an unencumbered Idaho RN license, and whoever leads the APRN role and population-focus courses holds an Idaho APRN license.
Where would Idaho practicums happen?
AANP places Idaho in the full practice group, so nurse practitioners there need no physician contract and NP-owned clinics sit in the pool beside hospital services. Boise City is by far the biggest metro, near 864,000 residents, with Idaho Falls, Coeur d'Alene and Twin Falls well behind. The large systems include St. Luke's, Saint Alphonsus and Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene; naming them says nothing about any arrangement with Kent State, and a Kent State site would still need a College of Nursing affiliation agreement.

Which license would you need in Idaho?
Idaho's compact recognition began January 19, 2018, and Ohio followed at the start of 2023, so RN practice between the two runs through the compact; Idaho's APRN student rule even refers to a privilege to practice, which is the compact at work. Which license Kent State records is its advising office's call, under a rule that names the state where you reside and train. The APRN Compact has no Idaho enactment. What should a Kent State student moving to Idaho do?
- Notify the Office of Student Services ahead of the move, as every admitted student in Kent State's online nursing programs must.
- Find out whether Idaho can host the rest of your program, and save that answer.
- Keep your RN license valid for where you will live, and report any change in its status.
- Hold off on promising Idaho preceptors any dates until Kent State confirms a practicum can happen there.

Is Kent State's online RN-to-BSN open to Idaho nurses?
No. The RN-to-BSN has the longest list of any Kent State online nursing program, 30 jurisdictions, and Idaho is still missing; Montana is the only state bordering Idaho on it. Kent State also ties RN-to-BSN admission to a license from the practicum state.
Does Idaho's Board approve out-of-state programs' clinical placements?
Idaho has no specific rule on it. Its statute and nursing rules address programs located in Idaho, and the Board's website asks out-of-state schools to email its licensing staff about requirements. For a Kent State student, the deciding step is Kent State's own approved-states list, which does not include Idaho.
Who can precept an APRN student in Idaho?
Idaho's education policy requires a preceptor licensed at or above the student's target role. Kent State adds its own standards: an unrestricted, active license plus certification, a year or more in practice, and the employer's approval, with concentration-specific rules on top. Would a Kent State NP degree satisfy Idaho's licensure requirements?
Idaho sits under MEETS on Kent State's program listing for its NP, CNS and certificate rows, but the concentration pages describe out-of-state licensure as unsettled. Have the Office of Student Services settle it before you bank on an Idaho license after graduation.
