Studying with Kent State from Alaska

Registering as an APRN student with the Alaska board
Many boards approve an outside school; Alaska's registers the individual student. Regulation 12 AAC 44.460 lets the board register someone whose APRN program is headquartered in another state for clinical practice in Alaska. The paperwork goes on form 08-4253 with a non-refundable fee.

Alaska wants each APRN preceptor licensed, or privileged, to practice as an APRN or physician, with that authority active and unencumbered, a practice focus comparable to yours, and a hands-on role supervising, teaching and evaluating you. A Kent State faculty member would need an Alaska RN license only if grading Alaska clinical work, combined with other Alaska teaching or consulting, topped 20 working days in one licensing period.
Anchorage, the Mat-Su and Fairbanks
AANP rates Alaska as a full practice state, and no state preceptor incentive is on record here. In Anchorage, the largest metro, the big names are Providence Alaska Medical Center (Providence is Alaska's largest hospital operator), the tribally run Alaska Native Medical Center, and Alaska Regional Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare. The Mat-Su valley has Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, and Fairbanks has Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Tanana Valley Clinic under Foundation Health Partners.
Those are places a search might begin, not sites hosting Kent State students. Any site's hours count only after an affiliation agreement between it and Kent State's College of Nursing is in place.
Licensing outside the compact
Alaska remains outside the Nurse Licensure Compact. Its board reports that no joining law has passed, with HB 131 and SB 124 still pending in the 2025-2026 session, nor has the state adopted the APRN Compact.
For a Kent State student that settles the license question. Kent State wants an unrestricted RN license from your home state, which is also where you train, and an Ohio multistate license, like any compact license, gives you no right to practice in Alaska. Can I do Kent State's online RN-to-BSN from Alaska?
Not while Alaska is missing from Kent State's RN-to-BSN list, which names 30 jurisdictions. Alaska's board asks RN-to-BS distance students for just two things, national accreditation plus approval in the school's home state, and an unencumbered RN license issued anywhere in the U.S., but Kent State's enrollment list decides whether you can start.
Is my Ohio multistate license enough for clinicals in Alaska?
No. A multistate license works only in compact states, and Alaska is not one. Alaska's student registration form will take an RN license from another state, yet Kent State's rule looks to your state of residence and practicum. Expect to need an Alaska license, and confirm the timing with Kent State's student services office.
Does Kent State say its NP programs meet Alaska's licensing requirements?
Its licensure disclosure lists Alaska as MEETS for the MSN NP concentrations, the MSN AGCNS and the APRN certificates. That speaks to a graduate's licensure, not to enrolling from Alaska, and Kent State's program pages still call the question undetermined, so ask before relying on it.
What should I do before relocating to Alaska mid-program?
Report the planned relocation to the Office of Student Services, as Kent State asks of every admitted online student. With Alaska absent from every list, whether your program can follow you there is Kent State's call.
