Kent State online nursing in South Carolina, program by program
Four Kent State online nursing programs take South Carolina residents: the Women's Health NP, the Nurse Educator and NAHSL master's tracks, and the RN-to-BSN. The PMHNP, AGCNS and post-MSN DNP do not list the state. Every licensure program rates MEETS for South Carolina on Kent State's disclosure table, and the state's preceptor tax credit has a catch for out-of-state students.

South Carolina is one of 17 states on Kent State's WHNP list, one of 21 for the Nurse Educator program and one of 20 for NAHSL, and it is on the RN-to-BSN list too.

At least one third-party directory leaves South Carolina off the WHNP list; Kent State's own approved states page includes it, and that page governs. Where the table says MEETS, the program pages still hedge with an undetermined status, so get the answer confirmed by the Office of Student Services.
The WHNP practicums from a South Carolina address
Kent State's four WHNP practicums, NURS 66192 to NURS 66492, move from gynecology through women's primary care and pregnancy to a specialty you choose, adding up to 600 hours in your home state by Kent State's certificate page. The WHNP page has the course-by-course detail.
South Carolina's practice rules shape who you ask. AANP scores the state as restricted: delegated acts require a physician practice agreement, and NPs face caps on supplying controlled substances. Kent State's rotation pages steer WHNP students toward nurse-midwives, women's health and family NPs, and OB/GYN physicians in practices with steady gynecologic or obstetric volume, and they allow a family physician or an adult or family NP for the primary care course. In a restricted state, the physician in a women's health practice may be worth asking too.
South Carolina's board rule and your license
South Carolina's board steps in when an out-of-state program runs clinicals that lead toward a first nursing license: Regulation 91-6 makes it seek approval first. The program must hold full approval at home, have a faculty member on site and on shift with a South Carolina or compact license, sign a written clinical affiliation agreement and follow the state's rules for precepted experiences, reporting compliance changes within 15 days. RN-to-BSN and APRN programs go unmentioned, so ask Kent State how it reads the rule for your course.
South Carolina's compact membership dates to January 19, 2018, and a multistate license issued in Ohio or another member state is honored there. South Carolina has not adopted the APRN Compact. A preceptor tax credit that stops at the state line
South Carolina offers preceptors an income tax credit and deduction under section 12-6-3800 of its tax code. It is aimed at uncompensated physician, APRN and PA preceptors who take at least two rotations a year, each 160 hours or more in qualifying settings, and who meet Medicaid participation thresholds. The student must be enrolled at one of South Carolina's own public or independent colleges, so precepting a Kent State student does not earn it. A 2024 amendment carries the credit through tax year 2029.

What about the Kent State PMHNP for South Carolina nurses?
It is not open to them today. South Carolina is missing from the PMHNP's 14-state list, even though the licensure table rates the NP concentrations MEETS there. The Women's Health NP is the Kent State NP program South Carolina residents can enter; ask student services whether the PMHNP list has changed.
Is Kent State's online DNP available in South Carolina?
The post-MSN DNP lists 16 states, and South Carolina is not among them, though North Carolina is. South Carolina residents with a master's degree can look at the Nurse Educator or NAHSL certificates, which do list the state. Check the approved-states page again before applying, since it carries no revision date.
Where does the Nurse Educator practicum happen for a South Carolina student?
In South Carolina, since Kent State's online practicums happen in your home state. You complete a specialty practicum, NURS 67092, then an educator-role practicum, NURS 60592, under a seasoned nurse educator at a school or in a hospital education department. Details are on our Nurse Educator page.
Does South Carolina's board have to approve Kent State's WHNP clinicals?
Regulation 91-6 is written for out-of-state programs leading to a first nursing license, and it is silent on APRN and RN-to-BSN programs. Kent State's approvals, a College of Nursing affiliation agreement and your license still apply, so start with your concentration coordinator.
