Alabama and Kent State's online nursing programs
Alabama appears on none of Kent State's online nursing lists, whether RN-to-BSN, MSN, certificate or post-master's DNP. An Alabama nurse considering Kent State should start by writing to the Office of Student Services. A current student relocating here should report the move before anything else, because Alabama's board expects an outside school to file ahead of any clinical day.

Where Alabama stands on Kent State's two lists
Kent State answers two separate questions about each state, and for Alabama the answers point in opposite directions. The College of Nursing's enrollment list leaves Alabama off every program. Kent State Online's licensure disclosure puts Alabama in the MEETS column for every licensure program it covers.

MEETS describes a graduate's path to a license, not permission to study from an Alabama address. Enrollment is settled on the approved-states page, licensure on the licensure disclosures. The college's own APRN program pages call licensure beyond Ohio undetermined, which sits awkwardly beside the definite table, so get either answer confirmed by Kent State before you commit.
Alabama asks outside schools to file first
Alabama is a state where an outside school must ask before its students set foot in a clinic. Under rule 610-X-3-.09 of the Alabama Administrative Code, an APRN or prelicensure program headquartered elsewhere submits a letter of intent and its approval papers to the ABN at least 15 days before clinical learning begins.
The packet lists every student with a license number, the clinical supervisor with a license number, and the facility, and it includes a statement signed by that facility's DON or CNO. On top of that, the ABN bills each outside program an annual fee, and without both approval and payment no student may begin clinicals anywhere in the state. Kent State, not the student, would be the filer.
Practice rules, health systems and the APTIP credit
AANP rates Alabama's NP practice environment as reduced. Every NP there works under a physician collaboration the state regulates, and two boards, Nursing and Medical Examiners, share oversight. Kent State accepts physicians as graduate preceptors too, a real help in a state built on those partnerships.
Searches in Alabama tend to start in its four biggest metros: Birmingham, home to UAB Medicine; Huntsville, with Huntsville Hospital Health System; Mobile, where Infirmary Health and USA Health operate; and Montgomery, with Baptist Health. They are places to begin, not sites committed to Kent State students.
Alabama also runs a preceptor tax credit, APTIP, for unpaid community preceptors in underserved rural areas, earned per 160-hour rotation until September 29, 2031. The credit is reserved for rotations serving schools with a physical Alabama campus, which leaves a Kent State rotation outside it.
Your RN license for Alabama clinicals
Alabama implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact on January 1, 2020. For post-licensure students in clinical settings, the ABN accepts either its own unencumbered RN license or a multistate one that another compact member issued. Kent State frames its rule around your home: the license must be unrestricted and belong to the state where you reside and train, and Kent State's student services office verifies it. Alabama has passed no APRN Compact law, and that compact only switches on once seven states adopt it. The ABN licenses teachers as well: anyone instructing students located in Alabama on more than 30 days in a year holds an Alabama or compact RN license.

Could an Alabama resident start Kent State's PMHNP online?
Not under the current approved-states page, which leaves Alabama off the PMHNP list and every other one. The licensure disclosure marks the PMHNP as meeting Alabama's requirements, but that describes licensure after graduation, not enrollment. Before applying, find out from the Office of Student Services if the list has moved.
Could an Alabama RN finish a BSN online with Kent State?
Kent State's RN-to-BSN list covers 30 jurisdictions and Alabama is not among them. Two neighbors are: Florida and Mississippi both appear on it. Because the RN-to-BSN's clinical course happens where you hold your license and live, an Alabama address is what keeps you off the list.
What happens if I move to Alabama partway through my Kent State MSN?
Alert the Office of Student Services as early as you can; Kent State asks every admitted online student to report a change of state at once. Alabama is off the approved lists and its board wants a school filing before any clinical day, so continuing from Alabama is Kent State's call. Hold your practicum plans until you have that answer in writing.
Does the licensure disclosure cover Alabama for Kent State's FNP?
Yes. The MSN NP row, which includes the FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP, lists Alabama as MEETS. Those three are mostly online with some Kent Campus attendance and sit outside the approved-states page, so Alabama enrollment for them is unpublished; ask Kent State's student services staff.
