Studying nursing with Kent State from Wyoming
Wyoming appears on none of Kent State's approved-states lists, so a Wyoming resident cannot begin a Kent State online nursing program from there today. The listing is Kent State's own; Wyoming's Board, for its part, asks post-licensure programs from other states for a written notice before a clinical placement rather than a full approval.

Kent State's Wyoming listings
On September 24, 2026, Kent State's approved-states page left Wyoming off all seven program lists, while its Programs Leading to Licensure page placed Wyoming under MEETS for every APRN program.

Each MEETS is provisional in practice: Kent State's concentration pages say the college has yet to decide on licensure outside Ohio, so confirm with it. The mostly online NP concentrations carry no published out-of-state eligibility either; the Office of Student Services fields that question. Wyoming's Chapter 6: notice rather than approval
Chapter 6 of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing's rules opens with a gate every outside program passes: registration with Wyoming's education department, or approval through NC-SARA. Kent State has been a SARA member since 2015. Past that gate, the rule treats schools by level.
Post-licensure study (APRN, DNP, MSN and RN-to-BSN) needs no Board approval. The school tells the Board in writing each time a student is headed to a Wyoming clinical placement, using a model letter the Board provides, and signs a written agreement with the host facility before the first clinical day, holding a copy in case the Board asks. Wyoming's facility contract lines up with Kent State's own rule: hours count only at agencies holding a current College of Nursing affiliation agreement.
Full practice across long distances
AANP lists Wyoming as full practice, so its nurse practitioners work without a physician agreement and NP-run clinics sit in the same preceptor pool as hospitals. Wyoming's population centers are small: Cheyenne, the largest metro, has about 103,000 people, Casper about 81,000 and Gillette, a micropolitan area, about 48,000.
By town, the larger hospitals are Cheyenne Regional Medical Center; in Casper, Banner Wyoming Medical Center, part of Arizona's Banner Health; Campbell County Health for Gillette; Laramie's Ivinson Memorial Hospital, which UCHealth counts as an affiliate; and Sheridan Memorial Hospital. We name them for orientation only, since any Kent State site needs an affiliation agreement first. Two compacts on Wyoming's books
Multistate RN licenses have been honored in Wyoming since January 19, 2018, and in Ohio since January 1, 2023. Wyoming's statutes also carry the APRN Compact (Title 33, Chapter 21, Article 3), one of five enactments along with Utah, Delaware and both Dakotas; seven are needed before it operates. For Kent State, a Wyoming resident's practicum runs on an unrestricted Wyoming RN license. Proof timing is on RN license for practicum.

Questions Kent State students ask
Does Kent State's RN-to-BSN enroll Wyoming nurses?
Not today. The RN-to-BSN reaches 30 jurisdictions, including Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota among Wyoming's neighbors, but Wyoming is not one of them. Kent State also expects RN-to-BSN students to be licensed as RNs in the state where their practica happen.
Is Kent State's post-master's DNP available in Wyoming?
No. The DNP list covers 16 states, Montana among them, and Wyoming is not included. Kent State's DNP FAQ says the scholarly project may be done in the student's state of residence and licensure, and the approved-states list names the states students may enroll from.
Who can precept a graduate student in Wyoming?
Wyoming's preceptor licensing rule is written for pre-licensure programs: there, a preceptor who provides patient care holds a Wyoming or multistate license, RN or APRN, active and without encumbrance. Could the APRN Compact let a Kent State graduate practice as an NP in Wyoming?
Not while the compact is dormant. Wyoming adopted it, but five enactments fall short of the seven needed, so an APRN license is still issued by each state. Kent State's disclosure says its NP programs MEET Wyoming's requirements, and the Office of Student Services can confirm that before you count on it.
