Michigan and Kent State's online nursing programs
None of Kent State's seven online nursing lists names Michigan, so its online programs, from the PMHNP to the RN-to-BSN, are not open to enrollment from there. Kent State's licensure page also rates three Michigan results DOES NOT MEET: the AGCNS master's, the AGCNS certificate and the campus BSN. Enrolled and planning a move to Michigan? The NP rows read MEETS, but that settles licensing, not enrollment, and Kent State's APRN program pages describe out-of-Ohio licensure as not yet determined. For the FNP, AGPCNP and AGACNP, which carry Kent Campus sessions, Kent State lists no states whatsoever. Compare approved states with the licensure disclosures.
Moving to Michigan during a Kent State program
Kent State's online practicum happens where you live, and its approved-states page cautions that a state's laws can put practicum courses out of reach. With Michigan on no list, raise a move before you commit to it.

Michigan's board, license and prescribing rules
Michigan sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, with legislation pending as HB 4246, and has no APRN Compact enactment. Getting a Michigan RN license means clearing a criminal background check, completing one-time training on identifying human trafficking victims, and logging 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years before the license issues.
Michigan grants NP, CNM, CRNA and CNS specialty certification only to people who hold a current Michigan RN license and national certification from a Board-recognized body, so that is the credential to check on a Michigan NP or CNS preceptor. The AANP rates Michigan restricted practice, with physician delegation required for NP controlled-substance prescribing. We found no Board rule making out-of-state schools seek approval or give notice before Michigan clinicals; its education rules (Mich. Admin. Code R 338.10301 and following) govern in-state schools.
Systems, metros and a finished preceptor pilot
Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan Health), Corewell Health, McLaren Health Care, Henry Ford Health and Trinity Health Michigan are the state's big systems. Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, about 4.4 million people, leads the metros, followed by Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint. They matter only if Kent State clears a Michigan arrangement for you, and each would still need an affiliation agreement.
Michigan's health department once paid preceptors through a Clinical Preceptor Pilot Program run with the Michigan State University College of Nursing, for MSU's FNP and PMHNP students. The state lists it as completed and limited to MSU, so it offers nothing to a preceptor taking an out-of-state student now. We found no enacted Michigan preceptor tax credit.

Can I enroll in a Kent State online nursing program while living in Michigan?
Kent State's enrollment page gives Michigan residents no online option today: none of its seven online nursing programs lists the state. Its hybrid NP programs appear on no state list, so ask student services about their Michigan eligibility. The page is undated; check it again before you apply.
Why does Kent State's FNP show MEETS for Michigan if the state is not approved?
The two pages answer different questions. The disclosure says the MSN NP concentrations meet Michigan's licensing requirements, which matters to a graduate who later moves there. The approved-states page decides where online students may enroll and train, and Michigan is absent from it. Program pages also call that licensure question undecided, so get a current answer.
Does the AGCNS DOES NOT MEET result matter if I move to Michigan after graduating?
It can. On Kent State's disclosure, both AGCNS credentials, master's and certificate, fall in Michigan's DOES NOT MEET column, with no reason given. Michigan ties CNS specialty certification to a Michigan RN license plus Board-recognized national certification, so ask both Kent State's student services office and the Michigan Board of Nursing before you enroll.
Can I hold a multistate nursing license in Michigan?
Not today. Michigan is outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, with legislation pending as HB 4246, so a Michigan license covers Michigan only and multistate privileges from a compact state stop at its border. Kent State ties practicum to a license valid where you live and train (RN license page).
